A reunion 20 years in the making: Homecoming 2024 celebrated Constructor University’s first-ever graduating class—and they came strong to Keep on Rocking
Constructor University welcomed back over 80 alumni to Bremen to celebrate and reconnect at Homecoming 2024 for a weekend in September. This year’s motto was Keep on Rocking and with gorgeous weather, smiles a plenty and parties that went to the early morning, there was indeed plenty of rocking all weekend long.
“It was a great weekend filled with memories, fun and sunshine. I couldn’t have been happier to see my former classmates and also meet other students,” said Katsia Barshchynskaya, Class of 2004. Alumni began arriving Friday morning, with some even sitting in on a class. If a lecture was not to their collective liking, the time-honored German tradition of afternoon cake and coffee was. “It was fantastic to come back to the campus for an engaging program for the weekend,” said Barschchynskaya.
The Homecoming program began in earnest with the Wisdom Across the Eras networking event, where alumni shared their knowledge and experience with over 100 students. Held in the IRC Friday evening, students had the opportunity to tap into the collective experiences of alumni and thus learn strategies for becoming successful professionals. After the event, the alumni sat down for a bite in the Nordmetall Servery and then toured the Reimar Lüst Hall basement. The night ended as Friday nights were wont to do for Constructor students: at TOS bar with adult beverages and merriment.
An eventful Saturday kicked off in the morning with the Alumni Association General Assembly and Interim Provost Werner Nau joined the stage for the Alumni All Hands. “It was great to see our alumni again, particularly those of the pioneering cohort, who have shaped this institution,” Nau said. On stage, Nau spoke at length about the academic development of the university, as well as on the physical plans to accommodate new students and programs. “Their interest in the academic developments shows their dedication and care for the diversity and international competitiveness of Constructor University.”
The highlight of the weekend, the Gala Dinner, was held Saturday night and attended by 130 alumni and guests. Dominik Kundel and Joshi Frenster, graduates of the class of 2014,hosted the dinner, while entertainment was provided by various student groups, including the Constructor Orchestra, piano, our student dance troop the Campus Crew, and two rock bands. The dinner also featured a fundraiser for the Alumni Scholarship Fund, which generated €5500 in support. After the Gala Dinner, it was a matter of never change a winning team, as alumni and students headed over to TOS and The Music Lab to keep the party going. Rumor has it that the Class of 2004 waited until 3AM to call it a night.
Homecoming 2024 wrapped up with an outdoor yoga session in front of the campus center before heading to Nordmetall for breakfast. The final event of the weekend was an info session on our Alumni Mentoring program with both students and alumni in attendance, alumni were able to share tips and insight about how to maximize the experience in this program.
Homecoming 2025 is scheduled for September 19-21, 2025.
