Let us cook for you: fuel your Constructor experience with a meal plan

University is the first time most students live independently and are responsible for making meal choices on their own. To help students studying at Constructor University with this life transition and ensure they have access to a variety of healthy and convenient options during this busy time in their lives, we offer a meal plan for all students living on campus. Our meal plan offers access to convenient, wholesome, and flavorful dining choices.

  • The meal plan can be used at our four college serveries and the Coffee Bar.
  • All students living on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. Accepting your housing offer is an automatic acceptance of the meal plan and its terms and conditions.
  • The meal plan will be included in your Student Account with Student Financial Services. In addition, your Housing and Meal Plan contract are bundled together – all students living on campus must accept both contracts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Enjoy the convenience of using your meal plan at various campus dining locations.

Save time and energy for studying instead of meal prep and cooking.

Experience diverse cuisines, prepared by our campus caterers, Scolarest.

Reduce the amount of cash you need while living on campus.

Meal Plan funds are conveniently loaded onto your campus card. No cash required.

Celebrate special events with custom menus.

The cost of the meal plan is basically transferred onto the campus card in two equal installments. Half will be transferred at the beginning of the Fall term, and the other half will be transferred at the beginning of the Spring term.

Once the funds are on the campus card, it acts like a declining balance payment card.

The funds on the campus card are not real money and cannot be transferred, credited, or refunded.

At the moment, the card can be used on campus at our four dining facilities and one café.

Meal plan funds can only be used between September 1 and May 31. If you are on campus before or after those dates, you will need to pay for food using an EC or credit card.

  • Balances on the campus card at the end of the academic year (May 31) do not carry over to the next academic year.
  • Balances on the campus card at the end of the academic year cannot be used after the May 31.

The meal plan does not guarantee a certain number of meals can be purchased per day. As a declining balance card, students will have to manage their own spending habits. If a student spends their funds too quickly during Fall semester, for example, we cannot transfer funds early from the Spring semester. The balance will only be topped up at the beginning of Spring semester.

The meal plan is mandatory. Exemptions may be considered solely in exceptional and well-documented medical cases, such as severe food allergies or other serious health conditions that make participation in the Meal Plan impossible. Exemptions are rare: In 2024, exemptions were only granted for 10% of the applications submitted.

Applications can be submitted via the eRezLife housing portal from July 1 to August 23rd through a form. We will not accept requests via email. All requests for exemption must be submitted through the eRezLife form and must be accompanied by official medical documentation, including test results issued by a licensed medical professional in Germany or, if issued abroad, accompanied by a certified English translation. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

If you are granted an exemption, you will be required to sign a Meal Plan Contract Amendment. You will continue to be invoiced until this amendment is signed.

The Departments of Student Affairs and Campus Operations jointly decide on meal plan exemptions based on recommendations from health staff. The University reserves the right to decline applications without providing further justification, particularly in cases where medical documentation is imprecise or test results are outdated. The University also reserves the right to request a second medical opinion. Decisions are made and communicated before the start of the rental period.

Funds remaining in your Meal Plan will expire at the end of each academic year.

Unspent funds will also expire if you cease to be enrolled at the university.

The university spends your meal plan fee throughout the academic year to ensure our student population has an adequate meal supply, as well as to maintain services and operational levels. The university has already spent your meal plan funds, which is why we cannot provide refunds for unused funds at the end of the academic term/year.

No. Only you can use your campus card. If someone else tries to use your card, it will be confiscated by the catering staff and turned over to our campus security team. You may then be referred to the Disciplinary Board.

If you lose your campus card, you should inform the Housing staff as soon as possible at housing@constructor.university so we can issue you a new card and block the old one.

If you do not report the card missing and someone else uses it, we cannot offer refunds. To avoid losing meal plan funds, report your card missing immediately.

Printing a new campus card costs 20 €.
