FAQ for expected graduating students

FAQ for expected graduating students

Students who are due to graduate in the Spring semester (e.g. in Spring 2023 for the Class of 2023) but who will complete their studies over the summer (e.g. due to submitting their thesis during the summer or writing make-up exams in August) will be considered an expected graduating student.

Please read all FAQ’s carefully and consider the repercussions and drawbacks that a delayed graduation entails. E.g.: if you need to submit a degree copy/final transcript for a job offer or Master application, in Sept./early Oct., you need to complete your studies in May, and cannot postpone an exam/Thesis submission to Aug. 31st.

Frequently asked questions:

In general, the last possible day to submit your outstanding graduation requirements is 31st August (the last day of the Spring semester and the last day of enrollment for graduating students). Different deadlines apply to the thesis module - please see question 14. Make-up exams will only be offered during the official make-up exam period, and only in accordance with the make-up exam schedule.

Registrar Services strongly recommends to submit outstanding graduation requirements e.g. your Thesis as early as possible, to allow for any unforeseen issues, such as technical problems with Moodle, queries from your supervisor, etc., and allow for time to submit the online Leaving form afterwards.

If you cannot submit your last graduation requirement by or on 31st August, e.g. because you are not able to sit a make-up exam, the 180 ECTS for your degree are not complete and you have not graduated. In order to complete your degree, you can apply for an extension of studies. Information regarding the extension of studies process is available here: https://constructor.university/academic-advising-services/extension-studies

Information regarding the extension of studies tuition fees is available here: https://constructor.university/student-life/student-services/academic-advising-services/extension-studies/extension-studies-tuition . For further questions about the financial implications, please contact Student Financial Services (sfs@constructor.university).

After your last graduation requirement has been completed, the instructor needs to grade your assignment. Please take into account that September is a very busy month for everyone and that the grading process will take some time. If you complete your last graduation requirement in August, please note that you might not be able to receive a proof of graduation (degree in print letter) before the end of September or even later. After your last grade has been published in CampusNet, a proof of graduation can be issued and your diploma will be prepared. Please note that the issuing of the diploma can take up to 4 weeks and in some cases longer, as the diploma needs to be signed by the Dean and the President.

If you need to submit a degree copy for a job offer or Master application, in Sept./early Oct., you need to complete your studies in May, and cannot postpone an exam/Thesis submission to Aug. 31st.

After you have submitted your last graduation requirement, please remember to submit your leaving form via CampusNet. Without this leaving form, your final transcript cannot be prepared. The last possible day to submit the leaving form via CampusNet is 31st August (last day of the Spring semester and the last day of enrollment for graduating students). If you complete your last graduation requirement in August, please note that your final transcript might not be available until mid-November.

If you need to submit a final transcript for a job offer or Master application, in Sept./early Oct., you need to complete your studies in May, and cannot postpone an exam/Thesis submission to Aug. 31st.

Your CampusNet and Moodle access will expire on 1st September. As of this date you will no longer have access to either. The reason is that the last day of enrollment for graduating students is 31st August and access to Moodle and CampusNet is linked to your enrollment. Your Constructor University email address will expire 30 days after disenrollment (by default the last day of enrollment for graduating students is 31st August, unless an earlier disenrollment date – e.g. 15th August – is requested in the CampusNet leaving form). If needed, please save any important data from your CampusNet/Moodle/Constructor University email before your access expires.

No, extending your access to CampusNet/Moodle/Constructor University email will not be possible.

If needed, please save any important data from your CampusNet/Moodle/ Constructor University email before your access expires.

You can request a letter which will help you to temporarily extend your residence permit for three months, so that your residence permit will not expire while you are waiting for the grade of your last graduation requirement. Please note that this letter will only allow you to temporarily extend your residence permit, it will not extend your student status.

The letter for temporarily extending your residence permit can be requested via this online form: https://constructor.university/extension-studies-residence-permit-purposes

No, the letter for the temporary extension of your residence permit will not extend your student status/enrollment at Constructor University. It can only be used to temporarily extend your residence permit with the BSU while you are waiting for the grade of your last graduation requirement.

Please use this alternate Leaving Form which does not require a log-in.

You can of course already receive a disenrollment confirmation, even if your final documents are not yet available. Please email registrar@constructor.university to request the disenrollment confirmation.

If you have completed your graduation requirements you are no longer eligible to sit exams (including for Further Modules) and they will appear as "incomplete" on your Final Transcript.

Registrar Services recommends that if an extension of studies seems (rather) likely, to pro-actively seek academic advice from the Academic Advising Services team and already arrange for an extension. Given that the make-up exam grades are due mid-September, i.e. during the ongoing (next) semester, it is easier to retract an extension than to apply for it (belated).

The thesis submission deadline is in mid May. The exact date can be found in the Academic Calendar. The deadline can be extended until June 30th for Undergraduate students and August 31st for Graduate students (referred to as "resubmission deadline"), but only if a draft is submitted by the initial deadline. If a student does not submit a draft within the deadline, they will receive a failing grade and will lose an attempt.

Undergraduate students have the option to submit their thesis by August 31st only if they have applied for a summer thesis and their supervisor agreed in the beginning of the semester. Such students are exempt from the May deadline as they will only start working on their thesis as of June. Students who did not apply for a summer thesis and who do not submit their final thesis by the resubmission deadline, will receive a failing grade. Retroactively applying for a summer thesis is not possible.

Please note that the thesis module only has two attempts and not three!
