Kadir Has University: Applied learning and general education at the heart of Istanbul

Kadir Has University (KHAS) is a foundation (private) university based in Istanbul, Türkiye. It was established in 1997 and underwent a curricular reform in the second part of the 2010s, which resulted in the implementation of the New Education Model in 2019. In particular, KHAS introduced project-based learning and the Core Program, a renewed approach to general education.

What kind of projects are the most relevant for Turkish society? What does KHAS consider necessary for every graduate to know and why? What is the future of foundation universities in Türkiye? We will discuss this and more with Prof. Dr. Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz, the rector of the KHAS and the main architect behind the New Education Model.

Dr. Sondan Durukanoğlu Feyiz a physicist and the rector of Kadir Has University.
She has been involved in higher education leadership for over two decades, focusing on academic development, institutional strategy, and innovation in university–industry collaboration and beyond.
Dr. Durukanoğlu Feyiz has previously held roles at Istanbul Technical University, Kansas State University, the Feza Gürsey Institute, MIT, and Sabancı University.
