Dr. Adilah Ponnurangam has been the Residential Life Manager of Mercator College since June 2019. Originally from Tanzania, she has a deep connection to Constructor University, having completed both her BSc and PhD here. During her graduate and PhD studies, she served as a Resident Associate, and as an undergraduate student, she was a proud Mercatorian for all three years. Today, she continues to call Mercator home, living in the college with her husband, Martin, and their two children, Akeelah (8) and Aliyah (6).
With experience working across four continents, Adilah has engaged with international students in various capacities—both socially and scientifically. She is passionate about fostering Mercator’s spirit as a ‘home away from home’ for students from diverse backgrounds. Drawing from her extensive mentoring experience, she is committed to helping students navigate university life and make the most of their time at Constructor.
Hatim Kara is the Residential Life Advisor, dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all students. When he’s not ensuring the smooth operation of residential life, he enjoys engaging with students, exchanging stories about different cuisines and cultural experiences.
Together with his wife Alifiya, Hatim proudly calls the college home, fully embracing its signature blue spirit. His role involves organizing community-building events, supporting students, and fostering a sense of belonging within the residential community.
Whether students need guidance, or simply someone to talk to, Hatim is always available to help them make the most of their college experience.

Mercator is renowned for hosting vibrant events, with its signature "Mercatorstraße" standing out as a campus favorite. This open-air mini-festival, held each spring semester, features a unique theme every year, drawing a large crowd and creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Some past themes include "Coachella" (2019), "Blue Beach Fiesta" (2023), and "Brazilian Carnival" (2024). Many would argue it’s the best event on campus – and we couldn’t agree more!
