Constructor University welcomed back around 120 alumni and guests for three days of reconnection, memories, and celebration under the motto “Undo the Adulthood.”
The weekend began with open lectures, a cozy alumni lounge and guided campus tours. Alumni enjoyed Kaffee & Kuchen with yearbooks and a special session of the Constructor Knowledge Labs Edge Talk. Prof. Dr. Andrey Ustyuzhanin gave a TED-style talk on “Using AI to Find Better Battery Materials,” followed by a panel with alumni Hauke Holtkamp (2005, 2008, 2014), Pavlin Mavrodiev (2006), and David Rosenblum discussing the future of higher education and careers in the era of AI.
Evening events included Wisdom Across the Eras, icebreaker games connecting students and alumni, College Open Hours, a throwback video for the Class of 2005, and a fun night at TOS with karaoke.
The Alumni Town Hall featured updates from leadership, followed by the General Assembly for Alumni Association members. The Food Truck Fest & Student Club Fair showcased over 10 student clubs, with the traditional group photo and Beyond the Pond Games, a fun activity organized by Saad El Jouhmi, which brought alumni together for lighthearted competitions, breaking the ice, and creating plenty of laughs.
Student performances by the Orchestra Club and Gabriel Lopez set the tone for the evening.
The Gala Dinner began with a Champagne Reception and a toast from Dr. Sergei Kouzmine, Acting President. We were honored to welcome former President Joachim Treusch among our guests. Nick Vorrink (Class of 2022) hosted the evening with energy and humor, guiding us through memorable throwbacks, a piano performance by Jamal Salimov (2027, ECE), and reflections on the theme CTRL+Z: Undo Adulthood with nostalgic stories and memes from different eras of campus life.
The dinner featured warm moments throughout the evening.
Heartfelt words from Dr. Cornelia Scheitz (Class of 2007) and Albena Bogoeva (Class of 2014), highlighted the Alumni Association’s ongoing support for students and introduced the 2025 Scholarship Recipients, Maria Al Beyrouti and Cecilia Castillo Guzman (both Class of 2028).
A moving In Memoriam for Jonathan Jost-Henrich Rittmayer (Class of 2021) was presented by Juliane Oberstein (Class of 2022), including a moment of silence and an opportunity for donations in his memory.
The evening also marked the presentation of the first-ever Alumni Awards by Mark Dziak, recognizing Rising Star Mahlaqua Noor, Community Impact winner Asfandyar Malik, and Innovator Bonaventure Dossou.
A highlight of the night was the Art Auction, curated by Saad El Jouhmi, featuring works generously donated by alumni, including Lisa Best (Class 2014), Humza Abid (Class 2019), Maria Eduarda Magalhães Carrara (Class 2025), and several others who generously contributed. The evening also included heartfelt speeches, a lively raffle, and a fishbowl drawing, raising over €10,000 to support alumni scholarships, student events, and memorial projects.
Adding to the magic, a student artist, Fanny Rivera Morales (Class 2027), created a live canvas painting during the dinner, capturing the spirit of the night in real time.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for the 25th anniversary in September 2026!
